NIS-2 current status: BSI webinar

The implementation of the NIS 2 Directive in Germany is facing delays, which raises numerous questions about the impact on companies and the new requirements for network and information security. To shed light on the current situation, the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) is offering a webinar and other resources to show what is already known about NIS-2 and what exactly it means for organizations.

The implementation of the EU Directive NIS-2 to strengthen cybersecurity into German law has been delayed. Originally, the directive was to be transposed into national law by October 17, 2024. According to current information, however, the corresponding law is not expected to come into force until the first quarter of 2025 at the earliest.

This delay affects numerous companies that have to adapt to new legal requirements. Although the legal requirements are not yet in force, it is advisable for affected companies to deal with the upcoming requirements at an early stage and take appropriate measures to improve their cyber security.

To help companies prepare, the Alliance for Cyber Security is offering a webinar entitled “NIS-2 for Business: What We Can Already Say.” This will take place online on December 17, 2024 from 10:00 to 11:00 am. Interested parties can register for the webinar via the Alliance for Cyber Security website.

Further tools and information can also be found on the website of the BSI.

Commentary (Henrik von Kunhardt, Riscreen GmbH)

It is worrying how party political power games can block progress in crucial areas of our infrastructure in the current situation.

It is particularly worrying that these failures not only affect our (national) security and overall economic performance, but also cause considerable financial burdens through fines and additional administrative costs – money that is urgently needed elsewhere.
